Stories / Bombonera
Bombonera (Alberto J. Armando Stadium) is one of the most famous football stadiums in the world. Diego Maradona called Bombonera "a temple of the world football." Bombonera is the home stadium of FC "Boca Juniors", the most popular team in Argentina. It calls "Bombonera" due to its shape, which reminds a sweets (bombón in spanish). British newspaper The Observer putted the Superclásico at the top of their list of "50 sporting things you must do before you die", saying that "Derby day in Buenos Aires makes the Old Firm game look like a primary school kick-about." Boca’s fans call themselves “xeneizes”, or the Genoese (originally fans of the team were mostly immigrants from Italy, living in the area of La Boca). Bombonera is full during the key games of the championship. Usually you can´t buy tickets in the free market (only VIP stands and tourist spots, where ticket prices start from 400 USD). Before the game you could buy tickets in the black market.
When the fans start jumping all together in the stands, the stadium itself oscillates. This feature of Bombonera was noted by Pele.0
Bombonera was accepted as the best football stadium in South America. Argentina´s the national team has never lost at Bombonera in official games.
